പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ അന്തരിച്ചു

ചലച്ചിത്ര താരവും സംവിധായകനുമായ പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ അന്തരിച്ചു. എഴുപത് വയസായിരുന്നു. മലയാളം, തമിഴ്, തെലുങ്ക്, ഹിന്ദി ഭാഷകളിലായി നൂറിലേറെ ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ സംവിധായകൻ, തിരക്കഥാകൃത്ത്, നിർമാതാവ് എന്നീ നിലകളിലും പ്രശസ്തനാണ്. ചെന്നൈയിലെ ഫ്‌ളാറ്റില്‍ മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തുകയായിരുന്നു. സംസ്‌കാരം നാളെ രാവിലെ പത്ത് മണിക്ക് ചെന്നൈയിലെ ന്യൂ ആവടി റോഡിലെ ശ്മശാനത്തില്‍ നടക്കും.

ആദ്യകാല കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് പ്രവർത്തകനും ബിസിനസുകാരനുമായിരുന്ന കുളത്തുങ്കൽ പോത്തൻ്റെ മകനായി 1952 ൽ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു ജനിച്ച പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ ഊട്ടിയിലെ ലോറൻസ് സ്കൂളിലും, മദ്രാസ് ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ കോളജിലുമായാണ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത്. മദ്രാസിൽ ബിഎ ഇക്കണോമിക്സിനു പഠിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തുതന്നെ അഭിനയത്തിൽ കമ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് മുംബൈയിൽ ഒരു പരസ്യഏജൻസിയിൽ കോപ്പി എഡിറ്ററായി. മോഹൻലാൽ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ‘ബറോസി’ലാണ് അവസാനമായി അഭിനയിച്ചത്. മമ്മൂട്ടി നായകനായി പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ  സിബിഐ 5ആണ് പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ്റെ അവസാനം റിലീസായ ചിത്രം.

അനശ്വര സംവിധായകൻ ഭരതനുമായുള്ള അടുപ്പമാണ് പ്രതാപിനെ സിനിമയിലെത്തിച്ചത്. 1978 ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഭരതൻ ചിത്രം ‘ആരവ’ത്തിലൂടെ സിനിമയിൽ അരങ്ങേറ്റം കുറിച്ച പ്രതാപ് എൺപതുകളിൽ മലയാളം, തമിഴ് സിനിമകളിൽ തരംഗമായിരുന്നു. ഭരതൻ്റെ ‘തകര’യിലൂടെ തെന്നിന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയിൽ ചുവടുറപ്പിച്ച പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ ചാമരം, അഴിയാത കോലങ്ങൾ, നെഞ്ചത്തെ കിള്ളാതെ, വരുമയിൽ നിറം ചുവപ്പ്, മധുമലർ, കാതൽ കഥൈ, നവംബറിന്റെ നഷ്ടം, ലോറി, ഒന്നുമുതൽ പൂജ്യം വരെ, സിന്ദൂര സന്ധ്യയ്ക്കു മൗനം, തന്മാത്ര, 22 ഫീമെയിൽ കോട്ടയം തുടങ്ങിയവയടക്കം നിരവധി ശ്രദ്ധേയ ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ വേഷമിട്ടു. കെ. ബാലചന്ദർ, ബാലു മഹേന്ദ്ര, മഹേന്ദ്രൻ, ഭരതൻ, പത്മരാജൻ തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ പ്രതാപ് പോത്തൻ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ ശ്രദ്ധേയങ്ങളാണ്. 

‘മീണ്ടും ഒരു കാതൽ കഥൈ, ഒരു യാത്രാമൊഴി, ഡെയ്സി, ഋതുഭേദം തുടങ്ങിയവ അടക്കം മലയാളത്തിലും തമിഴിലും തെലുങ്കിലുമായി 12 സിനിമകൾ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തു. സൊല്ല തുടിക്കിത് മനസ്സ് എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിനു തിരക്കഥയൊരുക്കി. മികച്ച നവാഗത സംവിധായകനുള്ള ദേശീയ അവാർഡ് ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പുരസ്കാരങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പ്രശസ്ത നിർമാതാവ് ഹരി പോത്തൻ‍ സഹോദരനാണ്. 1985 ൽ ചലച്ചിത്രതാരം രാധികയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തെങ്കിലും അടുത്ത വർ‌ഷം വിവാഹമോചിതനായി. പിന്നീട് 1990 ൽ അമല സത്യനാഥിനെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തു. 2012 ൽ പിരിഞ്ഞു. ഈ ബന്ധത്തിലെ കേയ ഏക മകളാണ്.

He had a passion for acting even while studying for BA Economics in Madras. Later, he became a copy editor in an advertising agency in Mumbai. She last acted in 'Barosi' directed by Mohanlal. Pratap Pothan's last release was CBI 5 starring Mammootty.

Prathap's closeness with the immortal director Bharatan brought him to the cinema. Prathap, who made his film debut with the 1978 Bharathan film 'Aarava', was a hit in Malayalam and Tamil films in the eighties. Prathap Pothan, who made his debut in South Indian cinema with Bharat's 'Takara', has acted in several notable films including Chamaram, Azhiyata Kolam, Nsesh Killade, Varumail Varam Red, Madhumalar, Kathal Kathai, The Loss of November, Lorry, One to Zero, Sindoora Sandhyaku Maunum, Tanmatra, 22 Female Kottayam etc. . He has received awards including the National Award for Best Debut Director. He is the brother of famous producer Hari Pothan. He married film star Radhika in 1985 but divorced the following year. Later in 1990, Amala married Satyanath. Divorced in 2012. Kaya is the only daughter in this relationship.
