ടോക്യോ പാരാലിമ്പിക്സ് - ഹൈ ജമ്പില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നിഷാദ് കുമാറിന് വെള്ളി
ടോക്യോ പാരാലിമ്പിക്സ് ഹൈ ജമ്പില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നിഷാദ് കുമാറിന് വെള്ളി. 2.06 മീറ്റര്‍ ചാടിയാണ് നിഷാദ് കുമാര്‍ വെള്ളി മെഡല്‍ സ്വന്തമാക്കിയത്. ഈ പ്രകടനത്തിലൂടെ ഹൈ ജംപിൽ ഏഷ്യന്‍ റെക്കോഡും നിഷാദ് സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു. നേരത്തെ വനിതാ ടേബിള്‍ ടെന്നീസില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭവിന പട്ടേലും വെള്ളി മെഡല്‍ നേടിയിരുന്നു. ഇതോടെ ടോക്യോ പാരാലിമ്പിക്‌സില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മെഡല്‍നേട്ടം രണ്ടായി.
അമേരിക്കയുടെ റോഡെറിക് ടൗണ്‍സെന്‍ഡ് സ്വര്‍ണ്ണവും ദല്ലാസ് വൈസ് വെങ്കലവും നേടി. 2.15 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരം ചാടിക്കടന്നാണ് ടൗണ്‍സെന്‍ഡ് സ്വര്‍ണം കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയത്. വൈസ് 2.06 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരം ചാടി വെങ്കല മെഡല്‍ നേടി.
നിഷാദും വെങ്കലം നേടിയ ദല്ലാസ് വൈസും ഒരേ ഉയരമാണ് ചാടിയതെങ്കിലും ആദ്യ ശ്രമത്തില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ ഉയരം ചാടിയതിൻ്റെ ആനുകൂല്യത്തില്‍ നിഷാദ് രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം സ്വന്തമാക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. നിഷാദ് ആദ്യ ശ്രമത്തില്‍ 2.02 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരമാണ് മറികടന്നത് എന്നാല്‍ വൈസിന് രണ്ട് മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരം മാത്രമേ മറികടന്നിരുന്നുള്ളു. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തന്നെ രാംപാല്‍ ചഹര്‍ 1.94 മീറ്റര്‍ ചാടി അഞ്ചാം സ്ഥാനത്തെത്തി.
നേരത്തെ വനിതാ ടേബിള്‍ ടെന്നീസില്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭവിന പട്ടേലും വെള്ളി മെഡല്‍ നേടിയിരുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കായി പാരാലിമ്പിക്‌സില്‍ മെഡല്‍ നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ ടേബിള്‍ ടെന്നീസ് താരവും ദീപ മാലിക്കിന് ശേഷം ഈ നേട്ടം കൈവരിക്കുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ വനിതാ കായിക താരവുമാണ് ഭവിന. 2016 റിയോയില്‍ വനിതകളുടെ ഷോട്ട്പുട്ടില്‍ ദീപ വെള്ളി നേടിയിരുന്നു.

Silver for India's Nishad Kumar in Tokyo Paralympics high jump. Nishad Kumar won the silver medal by jumping 2.06 metres. Nishad also created an Asian record in the high jump with this performance. India's Bhavina Patel had earlier won a silver medal in women's table tennis. With this, India's medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympics has been reduced to two. American Roderick Townsend won gold and Dallas Wise won bronze. The township won gold by jumping 2.15 meters. Wise jumped 2.06 meters to win the bronze medal.
Nishad and bronze-winning Dallas Vais jumped the same height, but Nishad took second place on the advantage of jumping higher on the first attempt. Nishad crossed a height of 2.02 meters in the first attempt, but Vais had crossed only two metres. India's Rampal Chahar jumped 1.94 metres to fifth place.
India's Bhavina Patel had earlier won a silver medal in women's table tennis. Bhavina is the first table tennis player to win a medal at the Paralympics for India and the second woman sportsperson to achieve this feat after Deepa Malik. Deepa had won silver in the women's shotput in Rio 2016.
