ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സമ്മർദ്ദം ഫലം കണ്ടു, ഏഴ് യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളും സ്വിറ്റ്‌സര്‍ലന്‍ഡും ഐസ്‌ലന്‍ഡും സീറം ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിൻ്റെ കോവിഷീല്‍ഡിന് അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കി. ഓസ്ട്രിയ, ജര്‍മനി, സ്ലൊവേനിയ, ഗ്രീസ്, എസ്‌റ്റോണിയ, അയര്‍ലന്‍ഡ്, സ്‌പെയിന്‍ എന്നീ യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളാണ് സീറം ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിൻ്റെ കോവിഷീല്‍ഡിന് അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കിയത്.
ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വാക്‌സീനുകള്‍ക്ക് അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കിയില്ലെങ്കില്‍ യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് നിര്‍ബന്ധിത ക്വാറന്റീന്‍ നടപ്പാക്കുമെന്ന് ഇന്ത്യ ഗവൺമെന്‍റ് നിലപാടെടുത്തിരുന്നു. ഇതിനെ തുടർന്നാണ് ഏഴ് യൂറോപ്പ്യൻ രാജ്യങ്ങള്‍ കോവിഷീല്‍ഡിന് അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കിയത്. കോവിഷീല്‍ഡ് എടുത്ത പലര്‍ക്കും യൂറോപ്യന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലേക്ക് യാത്ര ചെയ്യാനാകാതെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുന്നത് ശ്രദ്ധയില്‍പെട്ടുവെന്നും ഇക്കാര്യം ഉന്നതനേതൃത്വത്തെ അറിയിച്ച് പരിഹാരം കാണുമെന്നും സീറം ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് മേധാവി അദാര്‍ പൂനവാല തിങ്കളാഴ്ച ട്വീറ്റ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
യൂറോപ്യന്‍ മെഡിസിന്‍സ് ഏജന്‍സി (ഇഎംഎ) ഇതുവരെ ഫൈസര്‍, മൊഡേണ, ആസ്ട്രസെനക്ക, ജാന്‍സെന്‍ എന്നീ വാക്‌സീനുകള്‍ക്കു മാത്രമേ അംഗീകാരം നല്‍കിയിട്ടുള്ളു. ഈ നാല് വാക്‌സീന്‍ സ്വീകരിച്ചതിൻ്റെ സര്‍ട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് കൈയിലുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമാണ് വാക്‌സീനേഷന്‍ പാസ്‌പോര്‍ട്ട് അനുവദിച്ച് യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയനുള്ളില്‍ യാത്രയ്ക്ക് അനുമതി നല്‍കുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കോവിഷീല്‍ഡും കോവാക്‌സിനും യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയന്‍ പട്ടികയിലില്ല. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ ഈ രണ്ട് വാക്‌സീന്‍ സ്വീകരിച്ചവര്‍ക്കും യൂറോപ്യന്‍ യൂണിയന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലേക്കു യാത്ര ചെയ്യാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയായിരുന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.

The Government of India had maintained that if the Indian vaccine scenes were not approved, compulsory quarantine would be implemented for those arriving in India from EU countries. Following this, seven European countries approved the Covishield. Serum Institute chief Adar Poonawala had tweeted on Monday that he noticed that many people who had taken Covishield were struggling to travel to European countries and would inform the top leadership about the matter and resolve it.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has so far approved only the wax scenes Pfizer, Modena, AstraZeneca and Johnson. Only those who have a certificate of receiving these four vaccines are permitted to travel within the EU by granting vaccination passports. India's Covishield and Covaxin are not on the EU list. In this context, the two vaccine recipients were unable to travel to EU countries.
