ടോക്യോ ഒളിമ്പിക്‌സിലെ വേഗമേറിയ താരമായി ഇറ്റലിയുടെ ലാമൗണ്ട് മാഴ്‌സല്‍ ജേക്കബ്‌സ്. പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ 100 മീറ്റര്‍ ഓട്ടത്തില്‍ സ്വര്‍ണം നേടിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് ജേക്കബ്‌സ് ടോക്യോയിലെ വേഗമേറിയ താരമായി മാറിയത്. 100 മീറ്റര്‍ 9.80 സെക്കന്‍ഡുകൊണ്ട് മറികടന്നാണ് ജേക്കബ്‌സ് ഒന്നാമതായി മത്സരം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയത്. അമേരിക്കയുടെ ഫ്രെഡ് കെര്‍ലി വെള്ളിയും കാനഡയുടെ ആന്ദ്രെ ഡെ ഗ്രാസ്സെ വെങ്കലവും സ്വന്തമാക്കി. കെര്‍ലി 9.84 സെക്കന്‍ഡിലും ഗ്രാസ്സെ 9.89 സെക്കന്‍ഡിലും മത്സരം പൂര്‍ത്തീകരിച്ചു.  വേഗമേറിയ താരങ്ങളാല്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ, ഉസൈന്‍ ബോള്‍ട്ടിൻ്റെ നാടായ ജമൈക്കയില്‍ നിന്നും ഇത്തവണ ഒരു താരം പോലും പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ 100 മീറ്റര്‍ ഫൈനലില്‍ പ്രവേശനം നേടിയില്ല. 

ജേക്കബ്‌സിന്റെ കരിയറിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച സമയമാണിത്. ഒപ്പം യൂറോപ്പിലെ ഏറ്റവും വേഗതയേറിയ താരമെന്ന റെക്കോഡും താരം സ്വന്തമാക്കി. കെര്‍ലിയുടെയും ഗ്രാസ്സെയുടെയും കരിയറിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച പ്രകടനമാണ് ഇന്ന് ഫൈനലില്‍ പിറന്നത്. ഫൈനലില്‍ ബ്രിട്ടൻ്റെ ഷാര്‍നെല്‍ ഹ്യൂസ് ഫൗള്‍ സ്റ്റാര്‍ട്ട് നടത്തി അയോഗ്യനായതോടെ എട്ടുപേരാണ് 100 മീറ്റര്‍ ഓട്ടത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തത്.

Jacobs finished first in 100 meters in 9.80 seconds. Fred Kerley of the United States took silver and Canada's Andre de Grasse took bronze. Kerley finished the match in 9.84 seconds and Grasse in 9.89 seconds. This time not a single star from Usain Bolt's country of Jamaica, famous for its fastest stars, made it to the men's 100 m final.

This is the best time of Jacobs' career. The star also holds the record for the fastest player in Europe. The best performance of Kerley and Grasse's career was born in the final today. Eight people participated in the 100-meter race after Britain's Sharnell Hughes was disqualified from a foul start in the final.
