ജഗ്ദീപ് ധൻകര്‍ ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി സ്ഥാനമേറ്റു
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനാലാമത് ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട ജഗ്ദീപ് ധൻക്കര്‍ ഇന്ന് സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനില്‍ ഉച്ചക്ക് 12.30 നാണ് സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചടങ്ങ് നടന്നത്. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ദ്രൗപദി മുര്‍മു നിയുക്ത ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതിക്ക് സത്യവാചകം ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്തു. പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്രമോദി, കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രിമാർ, ലോകസഭ രാജ്യസഭ എംപിമാർ എന്നിവർ ചടങ്ങില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.
528 വോട്ടിൻ്റെ വലിയ വിജയമാണ് ധൻകര്‍ ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതി തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ നേടിയത്. കേവല ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തിന് 372 വോട്ട് മതിയെന്നിരിക്കെ വോട്ടെടുപ്പിന് മുന്‍പ് തന്നെ ധൻകര്‍ 527 വോട്ട് ഉറപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.പ്രതിപക്ഷത്തിൻ്റെ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥിയായ മാര്‍ഗരറ്റ് ആൽവയ്ക്ക് 182 വോട്ട് മാത്രമാണ് നേടാനായത്. 15 വോട്ടുകൾ അസാധുവായി. 200 വോട്ടുകൾ ഉറപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പ്രതിപക്ഷത്തിന് അതുപോലും നേടാനായില്ല.
780 എംപിമാരിൽ 725 പേരാണ് ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതി തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനായി വോട്ട് ചെയ്തു. അസുഖബാധിതർ ആയതിനാൽ രണ്ട് ബിജെപി എംപിമാർ വോട്ട് ചെയ്തില്ല. സണ്ണി ഡിയോൾ, സഞ്ജയ് ദോത്രെ എന്നിവരാണ് വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാതിരുന്ന ബിജെപി എംപിമാര്‍. 36 എംപിമാരുള്ള തൃണമൂല്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന്റെ രണ്ട് വിമത എംപിമാരായ ശിശിർ അധികാരി, ദിബേന്ദു അധികാരി എന്നിവരാണ് വോട്ട് ചെയ്തത്. 34 എംപിമാർ വോട്ടെടുപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് വിട്ടുനിന്നു.
അഭിഭാഷകൻ, ജനപ്രതിനിധി തുടങ്ങിയ നിലയിൽ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചയാളാണ് ജഗ്ദീപ് ധൻകർ. രാജസ്ഥാനിലെ കിത്താന സ്വദേശിയാണ് ജഗദീപ് ധൻകർ. ഫിസിക്സിൽ ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം ധൻകർ രാജസ്ഥാൻ സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് എൽഎൽബി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. രാജസ്ഥാൻ ഹൈക്കോടതിയിലും, സുപ്രീംകോടതിയിലും അഭിഭാഷകനായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. 1987 ൽ രാജസ്ഥാൻ ഹൈക്കോടതി ബാർ അസോസിയേഷൻ പ്രസിഡൻറ് ആയി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
2019ൽ പശ്ചിമ ബംഗാൾ ഗവർണറായി ചുമതലയേറ്റു. പിന്നാലെ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി മമതാ ബാനർജിയുമായുള്ള ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലിൻറെ പേരിൽ ജഗ്ദീപ് ധൻകർ വാർത്തകളിൽ ഇടം നേടി. അടുത്തിടെ സർവ്വകലാശാല ചാൻസലർ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിന്ന് ധൻകറെ മാറ്റിക്കൊണ്ട് മമത സർക്കാർ നിയമം പാസാക്കി. ഗവർണ്ണർ സ്ഥാനത്ത് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോഴും സംസ്ഥാനസർക്കാരിനെതിരെ മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലൂടെ ധൻകർ തുറന്നടിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ മമതാ ബാനർജിയും തൃണമൂൽ കോൺഗ്രസ്സും ധൻകറിനെതിരെയും ബിജെപിക്ക് എതിരെയും വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാനുള്ള അവസരം പാഴാക്കി വോട്ടെടുപ്പിൽനിന്ന് വിട്ടുനിൽക്കാനുള്ള തീരുമാനമാണ് കൈകൊണ്ടത്.

Jagdeep Dhankar, who was elected as the 14th Vice President of India, was sworn in today. The oath ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 12.30 pm. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to the Vice President-elect. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and Lok Sabha Rajya Sabha MPs attended the event. Dhankar won the vice presidential election with a huge margin of 528 votes. While 372 votes are enough for absolute majority, Dhankar secured 527 votes before the polling. Margaret Alva, the opposition candidate, managed to get only 182 votes. 15 votes were invalid. The opposition, which had secured 200 votes, could not get even that.
Out of 780 MPs, 725 voted for the Vice President election. Two BJP MPs did not vote due to illness. The BJP MPs who did not vote are Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dotre. Two dissident MPs of the 36-member Trinamool Congress, Sishir Adhikari and Dibendu Adhikari, voted. 34 MPs abstained from voting . Jagdeep Dhankar is a lawyer and public representative. Jagadeep Dhankar is a native of Kithana, Rajasthan. After graduating in Physics, Dhankar completed his LLB from the University of Rajasthan. Worked as a lawyer in Rajasthan High Court and Supreme Court. In 1987, he was elected as the President of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association.
In 2019, he took over as the Governor of West Bengal. Later, Jagdeep Dhankar made headlines for his clash with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Recently, the Mamata government passed a law removing Dhankar from the post of university chancellor. Even when he was in the position of governor, Dhankar had openly attacked the state government through the media. But Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress wasted the opportunity to vote against Dhankar and the BJP and decided to stay away from the polls.
