മുന്‍ മന്ത്രിയും ജെഎസ്എസ് നേതാവുമായ കെ ആർ ഗൗരിയമ്മ അന്തരിച്ചു. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ സ്വകാര്യ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ വാർധക്യ സഹജമായ അസുഖത്തെ തുടർന്ന് ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്നു.

കേരള ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഇതിഹാസ വനിതയായിരുന്നു ഗൗരിയമ്മ. ഐക്യ കേരളത്തിലെ ആദ്യ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ ഭൂപരിഷ്കരണ ബില്ല് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത് ഗൗരിയമ്മയായിരുന്നു. ആറ് സർക്കാരുകളിലായി പതിനാറ് വർഷം മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന ഏക വനിതയും ഗൗരിയമ്മയാണ്. 

ആറു പതിറ്റാണ്ടോളമായി ജീവിച്ച ആലപ്പുഴ ചാത്തനാട്ട് വീട്ടിൽ നിന്ന് ആഴ്ചകൾക്ക് മുൻപാണ് 102കാരിയായ കെ.ആർ.ഗൗരിയമ്മ, തലസ്ഥാനത്തെ വഴുതക്കാടുള്ള സഹോദരി പുത്രിയുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറ്റിയത്. കോവിഡ് സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ സന്ദർശകർക്ക് പോലും കടുത്ത നിയന്ത്രണം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.

കഴിഞ്ഞ തദ്ദേശ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ അനാരോഗ്യം കാരണം വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാന്‍ കഴിയാതിരുന്ന ഗൗരിയമ്മയ്ക്ക് തപാല്‍ വോട്ടിലൂടെ ഇത്തവണത്തെ നിയമസഭ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന്റെ ഭാഗമാകാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞു. തദ്ദേശ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനു മുന്‍പ് വീട്ടില്‍ വീണു പരുക്കേറ്റ ഗൗരിയമ്മ തപാല്‍ വോട്ടിന് അപേക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ചട്ടമനുസരിച്ച് അപേക്ഷ അംഗീകരിക്കാനാകില്ലെന്ന് അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

Former minister and JSS leader K R Gauriamma passed away. He was being treated for an old age illness at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Gauriamma was a legendary woman in Kerala history. Gauriamma introduced the Land Reforms Bill in the first Communist Cabinet in United Kerala. Gauriamma is also the only woman in six governments who was a minister for sixteen years.

K.R. Gauriamma, 102, moved into her sister's daughter's house in the slippery forest of the capital weeks ago from the Alappuzha Chatanat house where she had lived for nearly six decades. Even visitors were severely restricted in the Kovid situation.

Gauriamma, who was unable to vote due to ill health in the last local elections, was able to be a part of the assembly elections this time by postal vote. Gauriamma, who was injured in a house fall before the local elections, had applied for a postal vote but the authorities had informed her that the application could not be accepted as per the rules.
