മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാറിൻ്റെ ഡാമിൻ്റെ കൂടുതല്‍ ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ അര്‍ധരാത്രി തമിഴ്‌നാട് മുന്നറിയിപ്പില്ലാതെ ഉയര്‍ത്തി. ജലനിരപ്പ് 142 അടി എത്തിയതോടെയാണ് അണക്കെട്ടിൻ്റെ10 സ്പില്‍വേ ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ 60 സെന്റീമീറ്റര്‍ വീതം ഉയര്‍ത്തിയത്. ഈ സീസണില്‍ ആദ്യമായാണ് ഇത്രയധികം ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ ഒരുമിച്ച് തുറക്കുന്നത്. ഇന്നലെ അടച്ച ഷട്ടറുകളാണ് ജലനിരപ്പ് ഉയർന്നതിനെ തുടർന്ന് അർധരാത്രിയോടെ തുറന്നത്. സെക്കൻഡിൽ 8000 ഘനയടി ജലമാണ് പുറത്തേക്ക് ഒഴുക്കുന്നത്
ഇതേത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് പെരിയാര്‍ തീരത്തെ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ജാഗ്രതാ നിര്‍ദേശം നല്‍കി. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം മുന്നറിയിപ്പില്ലാതെ രാത്രി ഡാമിൻ്റെ ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ ഉയര്‍ന്നതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ വെള്ളം കയറിയിരുന്നു. ഇത് വലിയ പ്രതിഷേധമാണ് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത്. ഇന്നും വള്ളക്കടവിലെ വീടുകളില്‍ വെള്ളം കയറി. മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നല്‍കാനെത്തിയ വാഹനം തടഞ്ഞിട്ട് നാട്ടുകാര്‍ പ്രതിഷേധിച്ചു.
