ജർമനിയുടെ പുതിയ ചാൻസലറായി സോഷ്യൽ ഡമോക്രാറ്റ് പാർട്ടി നേതാവ് ഒലാഫ് ഷോൾസ് (63) അധികാരമേറ്റു. ഇതോടെ 16 വർഷം തുടർച്ചയായി ജർമനിയെ നയിച്ച അംഗല മെർക്കൽ യുഗത്തിന് അന്ത്യമായി. നേരത്തെ 303 ന് എതിരെ 395 വോട്ടിന് പാർലമെൻ്റ്  ഷോൾസിനെ ചാൻസലറായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്നു. 736 അംഗ ജർമൻ പാർലമെൻ്റിൽ ഷോൾസിൻ്റെ ത്രികക്ഷി സഖ്യത്തിന് 416 പേരുടെ പിന്തുണയുണ്ട്. സഘ്യകക്ഷിയായ ഗ്രീൻസ് പാർട്ടി നേതാവ് റോബർട്ട് ഹാബക് ആണ് വൈസ് ചാൻസലർ. ത്രികക്ഷി സഖ്യത്തിലെ മൂന്നാം കക്ഷിയായ ഫ്രീ ഡമോക്രാറ്റ് പാർട്ടിയുടെ നേതാവ് ക്രിസ്റ്റ്യൻ ലിൻഡ്നർ ആണ് ധനമന്ത്രി. മെർക്കൽ മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ വൈസ് ചാൻസലറും ധനമന്ത്രിയും ആയിരുന്നു ഷോൾസ്. കോവിഡ് നാലാം തരംഗം, കാലാവസ്ഥാ പ്രതിസന്ധി, റഷ്യയുമായുള്ള സംഘർഷം, ചൈനയുടെ അധീശത്വം എന്നീ വെല്ലുവിളികൾ ഷോൾസിനെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

Social Democrat leader Olaf Scholes, 63, has been sworn in as Germany's new chancellor. This marked the end of the Angela Merkel era, which had led Germany for 16 consecutive years. Earlier, Parliament had elected Sholes as Chancellor by 395 votes to 303. In the 736-member German parliament, Scholes' three-party alliance has 416 members. The Vice Chancellor is Robert Habuck, a leader of the Greens party. The finance minister is Christian Lindner, leader of the Free Democrats, a third party in the trilateral coalition.
