ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആദ്യ സംയുക്ത സേനാ മേധാവി ജനറൽ ബിപിൻ റാവത്തിൻ്റെ പിൻഗാമിയെ വരും ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചേക്കും. പാക്ക്, ചൈന അതിർത്തികളിൽ സുരക്ഷാ വെല്ലുവിളികൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ പ്രതിരോധ സേനയിലെ ഏറ്റവും സുപ്രധാന പദവി ഒഴിച്ചിടുന്നതു ഭൂഷണമല്ലെന്നാണു കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാർ വിലയിരുത്തൽ. ഒഴിച്ചിടുന്നത് തെറ്റായ സന്ദേശമായിരിക്കും ലോകത്തിന് നൽകുക എന്ന വിലയിരുത്തലും സർക്കാരിനുണ്ട്.  ജനറൽ ബിപിൻ റാവത്തിൻ്റെ മരണത്തെത്തുടർന്ന്  പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദിയുടെ അധ്യക്ഷതയിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം ചേർന്ന സുരക്ഷാകാര്യ മന്ത്രിസഭാ ഉപസമിതി ഇക്കാര്യം ചർച്ച ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. സീനിയോറിറ്റി പരിഗണിച്ചാണു നിയമനമെങ്കിൽ 3 സേനാ മേധാവികളിൽ മുതിർന്നയാളായ കരസേന മേധാവി  ജനറൽ എം എം നർവാണേയ്ക്കാണ് സാധ്യത. 

ബിപിൻ റാവത്തും കരസേനയിൽ നിന്നായിരുന്നതിനാൽ അടുത്ത സംയുക്ത മേധാവി മറ്റൊരു സേനയിൽ നിന്നാവണമെന്ന അഭിപ്രായം ശക്തമായാൽ വ്യോമസേന മേധാവി  എയർ ചീഫ് മാർഷൽ വി ആർ ചൗധരി മലയാളിയായ നാവികസേന മേധാവി അഡ്മിറൽ ആർ ഹരികുമാർ എന്നിവരിലൊരാളെയും പരിഗണിക്കും. ഇരുവർക്കും സേന മേധാവിയായി ദീർഘകാല പരിചയമില്ല  എന്നത് ഒരു ന്യുനതയാണ്. 

റാവത്ത് ഏതാനും വർഷങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ കാലാവധി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി വിരമിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ പിൻഗാമിയാവാൻ ഹരികുമാറിനു സാധ്യതയേറെയായിരുന്നു. 3 സേനകളുടെയും സംയുക്ത കമാൻഡ് രൂപീകരണത്തിൽ (തിയറ്റർ കമാൻഡ്) റാവത്തിനൊപ്പം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതിൻ്റെ അനുഭവസമ്പത്തുണ്ട് ഹരികുമാറിന്. സേനകളുടെ സംയുക്ത ഘടകമായ ഇൻ്റഗ്രേറ്റഡ് ഡിഫൻസ് സ്റ്റാഫിൻ്റെ മേധാവിയായി ഹരികുമാർ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച വേളയിലാണു റാവത്തിൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ മിലിറ്ററികാര്യ വകുപ്പ് കേന്ദ്രം രൂപവത്കരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. തുടർന്ന് ഏതാനും നാൾ ഇരുവരും ഒന്നിച്ചു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു. അടുത്തിടെ സേനയിൽ നിന്നു വിരമിച്ച മേധാവികളിലൊരാളെ റാവത്തിന്റെ പിൻഗാമിയായി നിയമിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ സാധ്യതയും പരിശോധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ രണ്ടാഴ്ച മുൻപ് വിരമിച്ച നാവികസേനാ മേധാവി അഡ്മിറൽ കരംബീർ സിങ്ങിനെ പരിഗണിക്കാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.

The successor to India's first Chief of Defence Staff of Indian Armed Force General Bipin Rawat is likely to be announced in the coming days. The Central Government has said that it is not fair to relinquish the most important post in the Defense Forces in the face of security challenges along the Pak-China border. The government is of the view that evacuation will send the wrong message to the world. The issue was discussed by a Cabinet sub-committee on security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the death of General Bipin Rawat. If the appointment is made on the basis of seniority, it is likely to be General MM Naravane , the most senior of the three Army Chiefs.Since Bipin Rawat was also from the Army, if the opinion is strong that the next Joint Chief should be from another force, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary, or one of the Malayalee Navy Chief, Admiral R Harikumar will consider. One drawback is that both have no long-term experience as commander-in-chief.

If Rawat had completed his term in a few years and retired, Harikumar would have been more likely to succeed him. Harikumar has experience working with Rawat in the formation of the Joint Command (Theater Command) of the 3 Armies. The Military Affairs Department Center was set up under Rawat's command while Harikumar was serving as the head of the Integrated Defense Staff, a joint unit of the forces. The two then worked together for a few days. The possibility of appointing one of the recently retired chiefs as Rawat's successor is also being considered. If so, it is likely that Admiral Karambir Singh, the Navy chief who retired two weeks ago, will be considered.
