ഇന്തൊനീഷ്യയില്‍ വന്‍ ഭൂചലനം, സൂനാമി മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്

ഇന്തോനീഷ്യയിൽ 7.3 തീവ്രത രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഭൂചലനം. ഈ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ സുനാമി മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു. മൗമേറ നഗരത്തിൽനിന്ന് 100 കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്ക് ഫ്ലോറസ് കടലിൽ 18.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ ആഴത്തിലാണ് ഭൂചലനം ഉണ്ടായതെന്ന് യുഎസ് ജിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവേ അറിയിച്ചു. ആയിരം കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ ശക്തമായ തിരകൾക്ക് സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് പസഫിക് സുനാമി മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് കേന്ദ്രം അറിയിച്ചു. ഗ്രീൻവിച്ച് സമയം പുലർച്ചയെ 03.20 ഓടെയാണ് ഭൂചലനം ഉണ്ടായത്. 

ഇന്തോനീഷ്യയിലുണ്ടായ മാരകമായ ഭൂചലനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന് 2004 ഉണ്ടായതാണ്. സുമാത്ര തീരത്ത് 9.1 തീവ്രതയിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഭൂചലനവും അതേത്തുടർന്നുണ്ടായ അതിഭീകര സുനാമി തിരകൾ തമിഴ്‌നാടിൻ്റെയും കേരളത്തിൻ്റെയും തീര മേഖലകളെയും ശക്തമായി ബാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. അന്ന് ലോകത്തെമ്പാടുമായി രണ്ടു ലക്ഷത്തോളം പേരുടെ ജീവനാണ് സുനാമി തിരകൾ കവർന്നത്. 

7.3 magnitude earthquake reported in Indonesia. In this context, the tsunami alert was issued. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a depth of 18.5 km in the Flores Sea, 100 km north of Maumera. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said strong waves of up to 1,000 kilometers were expected. The quake struck at 3.20am Greenwich Mean Time.

2004 was one of the deadliest earthquakes in Indonesia. A magnitude 9.1 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra and the ensuing tsunami have hit coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The tsunami claimed the lives of more than two million people worldwide that day.
