ബംഗ്ലദേശ് വിമോചന യുദ്ധത്തിൽ വീരമൃത്യു വരിച്ച സൈനികരുടെ നിത്യസ്മരണയ്ക്കായുള്ള ഇന്ത്യാഗേറ്റിലെ അണയാദീപം ‘അമർ ജവാൻ ജ്യോതി’  ദേശീയ യുദ്ധ സ്മാരകത്തിൽ ലയിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇന്റഗ്രേറ്റഡ് ഡിഫൻസ് സ്റ്റാഫ് മേധാവി എയർ മാർഷൽ ബാലഭദ്ര രാധാകൃഷ്ണയാണു അമർ ജവാൻ ജ്യോതി ദേശീയ യുദ്ധസ്മാരകത്തിലെ ജ്യോതിയിൽ ലയിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സൈനിക ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ തിളക്കമായി 50 വർഷം ജ്വലിച്ച വിളക്ക് 400 മീറ്റർ അകലെ ദേശീയ യുദ്ധ സ്മാരകത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാക്കിയതു രാഷ്ട്രീയ വിവാദമായി. രാജ്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി ജീവൻ ബലി നൽകിയ സൈനികരുടെ സ്മരണാർഥമുള്ള ജ്വാലകൾ ഒന്നിച്ചു ജ്വലിക്കട്ടെ എന്നാണു കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാർ വിശദീകരണം. എന്നാൽ ചരിത്രത്തെ ഇല്ലാതാക്കാനാണു കേന്ദ്ര നീക്കമെന്നു കോൺഗ്രസ് ആരോപിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യാഗേറ്റിനു സമീപത്തേക്കു പ്രതിഷേധ മാർച്ച് നടത്തിയ യൂത്ത് കോൺഗ്രസ് പ്രവർത്തകരെ പൊലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു നീക്കി.

ഒന്നാം ലോക യുദ്ധത്തിൽ വീരമൃത്യു വരിച്ച ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികരുടെ സ്മരണയിലാണു ബ്രിട്ടിഷുകാർ ഡൽഹിയിൽ ഇന്ത്യാ ഗേറ്റ് (1931) നിർമിച്ചത്. 1971 ലെ ബംഗ്ലദേശ് വിമോചന യുദ്ധം ജയിച്ചതിൻ്റെ സ്മരണയിലാണ് 1972 ലെ റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ദിനത്തിൽ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ഇന്ദിരാഗാന്ധി ഇന്ത്യാഗേറ്റിൽ അമർ ജവാൻ ജ്യോതി തെളിച്ചത്.

ദേശീയ യുദ്ധ സ്മാരകം: ഇന്ത്യാ ഗേറ്റ് പരിസരത്തെ പ്രിൻസസ് പാർക്കിൽ 40 ഏക്കറിൽ 2019 ഫെബ്രുവരി 25നാണു ദേശീയ യുദ്ധസ്മാരകം സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. മുൻപു റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ദിനം ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള എല്ലാ സൈനിക ചടങ്ങുകളിലും ദീപം തെളിയിച്ചിരുന്നതു ഇന്ത്യാഗേറ്റിലെ അമർ ജവാൻ ജ്യോതിയിലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ യുദ്ധ സ്മാരകം വന്നതോടെ ചടങ്ങുകളെല്ലാം അവിടേക്കു മാറ്റി. വീരജവാന്മാർക്കു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള അനശ്വര ജ്വാല അണച്ചതു ദുഃഖകരമായ കാര്യമാണെന്നു ട്വിറ്ററിൽ കുറിച്ച രാഹുൽ ഗാന്ധി, ചിലർക്കു രാജ്യസ്നേഹവും ത്യാഗവും എന്താണെന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നും തങ്ങൾ ഒരിക്കൽ കൂടി അമർ ജവാൻ ജ്യോതി തെളിയിക്കുമെന്നും വ്യക്തമാക്കി. കേന്ദ്ര നീക്കത്തെ പിന്തുണച്ചും എതിർത്തും മുൻ സൈനിക ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും രംഗത്തെത്തി.
