ഹിജാബ് വിവാദം - വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മൂന്ന് ദിവസം അവധി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച് കര്‍ണാടക സർക്കാർ
വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലെ ഹിജാബ് വിലക്കിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നുള്ള പ്രതിഷേധത്തിൻ്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തില്‍ കര്‍ണാടകത്തിലെ സ്‌കൂളുകള്‍ക്കും കോളേജുകള്‍ക്കും മൂന്ന് ദിവസത്തേക്ക് സർക്കാർ അവധി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. സമാധാനവും ഐക്യവും കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനാണ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ അടച്ചിടാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചതെന്ന് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ബസവരാജ് ബൊമ്മൈ ട്വീറ്ററിലൂടെ അറിയിച്ചു. അതേസമയം ഹിജാബ് വിലക്കിയതിനെതിരേ ഉഡുപ്പി കോളേജിലെ അഞ്ച് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിനികള്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് നല്‍കിയ ഹര്‍ജി കര്‍ണാടക ഹൈക്കോടതി വിശാല ബെഞ്ചിന് വിട്ടു. സംഘര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കിട വരുത്താതെ സമാധാനം കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കണമെന്ന് കോടതിയും വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളോടും പൊതുജനങ്ങളോടും നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. I appeal to all the students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. I have ordered closure of all high schools and colleges for next three days. All concerned are requested to cooperate.

ഉഡുപ്പിയിലെ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ വനിതാ പി യു കോളേജിലും കുന്ദാപുരയിലെ മറ്റൊരു കോളേജിലും ഹിജാബ് ധരിച്ചെത്തിത്തിയ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിനികളെ തടഞ്ഞതാണ് പ്രതിഷേധങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വഴിതുറന്നത്. നടപടിക്കെതിരേ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിനികള്‍ രംഗത്തെത്തുകയായിരുന്നു. സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ നിരവധി കോളേജുകളിലേക്ക് പ്രതിഷേധം വ്യാപിച്ചതോടെ 'ഐ ലവ് ഹിജാബ്' എനന് പേരില്‍ ക്യാംപയിനും വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. അതേസമയം സ്‌കൂളുകള്‍ മതവിശ്വാസം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കേണ്ട സ്ഥലമല്ലെന്നാണ് കര്‍ണാടക ആഭ്യന്തര മന്ത്രി പ്രതികരിച്ചത്. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ വകുപ്പ് നിര്‍ദേശിച്ച യൂണിഫോം മാത്രമേ അനുവദിക്കൂ എന്ന് കര്‍ണാടക മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി നേരത്തെ തന്നെ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
The government has announced a three-day holiday for schools and colleges in Karnataka in the wake of protests following the ban on the hijab in educational institutions. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tweeted that the decision to close educational institutions was taken to maintain peace and unity. Meanwhile, a petition filed by five students of Udupi College against the ban on hijab was referred to a wide bench by the Karnataka High Court. The court also directed students and the public to maintain peace without resorting to violence.
The protests were sparked by the blocking of students wearing hijabs at Government Vanitha PU College in Udupi and another college in Kundapura. The students came out against the action. As the protest spread to several colleges in the state, students launched a campaign called 'I Love Hijab'. However, the Karnataka Home Minister said that schools are not a place to practice religion. Earlier, the Karnataka Chief Minister had said that only uniforms prescribed by the Education Department would be allowed.
