മുതിർന്ന കോൺഗ്രസ്സ് നേതാവ് കെ ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ അന്തരിച്ചു

മുതിർന്ന കോൺഗ്രസ്സ് നേതാവും ആറ് സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ ഗവർണറും ആയിരുന്ന  കെ ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ (90) അന്തരിച്ചു. 1977 -78 ലെ കെ കരുണാകരൻ, എ കെ ആൻ്റണി മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ കൃഷി, സാമൂഹിക ക്ഷേമ വകുപ്പു മന്ത്രിയായും 2001 -04 എ കെ ആൻ്റണി മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ ധനകാര്യ-എക്‌സൈസ് വകുപ്പുകളും അദ്ദേഹം കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാലക്കാടെ വീട്ടിൽ വെച്ചായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. ആറ് സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ ഗവർണറായിരുന്ന ഏക മലയാളി ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ശങ്കരൻ നായരുടേയും ലക്ഷ്മിയമ്മയുടേയും മകനായി 1932 ഒക്ടോബർ 15ന് പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ ഷൊർണൂരിൽ ജനിച്ചു. പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനു ശേഷം കോൺഗ്രസ് പാർട്ടിയിൽ ചേർന്ന്  മുഴുവൻ സമയ രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രവർത്തകനായി.

2007 മുതൽ 2014 വരെ  അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശ്, ആസ്സാം, നാഗാലാൻഡ്, ജാർഖണ്ഡ്, ഗോവ (അധികചുമതല), മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര എന്നീ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ ഗവർണറായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1985 മുതല്‍ 2001 വരെ 16 വര്‍ഷം യു ഡി എഫ് കണ്‍വീനര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു. 2001 മുതൽ 2004 വരെ ധനകാര്യ-എക്‌സൈസ് വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു. 1977-ൽ തൃത്താലയിൽ നിന്ന് ആദ്യമായി കേരള നിയമസഭാംഗമായി. 1980-ൽ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണപുരത്ത് നിന്നും 1987-ൽ ഒറ്റപ്പാലത്ത് നിന്നും 2001-ൽ പാലക്കാട് നിന്നും നിയമസഭയിലേക്ക് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

1982-ൽ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണപുരത്ത് നിന്ന് മത്സരിച്ചെങ്കിലും സി പി എമ്മിലെ ഇ പത്മനാഭനോടും 1991-ൽ ഒറ്റപ്പാലത്ത് കോൺഗ്രസ് എസിലെ വി സി കബീറിനോടും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു.

K Sankaranarayanan, a senior Congress leader and governor of six states, has died at the age of 90. K Karunakaran was the Minister of Agriculture and Social Welfare in the AK Antony Cabinet from 1977-78 and the Finance and Excise Departments in the 2001-04 AK Antony Cabinet. He died at his home in Palakkad. He was the only Malayalee to be the governor of six states. He was born on October 15, 1932 in Shornur, Palakkad district, the son of Sankaran Nair and Lakshmiamma. After primary education, he joined the Congress party and became a full-time politician.

From 2007 to 2014, he served as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Goa (additional charge) and Maharashtra. He was the UDF convener for 16 years from 1985 to 2001. He was the Minister of Finance and Excise from 2001 to 2004. In 1977, he became the first member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Trithala. Elected to the Legislative Assembly from Srikrishnapuram in 1980, Ottapalam in 1987 and Palakkad in 2001.

He contested from Srikrishnapuram in 1982 but lost to E Padmanabhan of the CPM and VC Kabir of the Congress in 1991 at Ottapalam.
