കർണാടക നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. നിലവിലെ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ വയനാട്ടിൽ ഉപതിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്  ഇല്ല. മെയ് പത്തിന് കർണാടകയിലെ 224 നിയമസഭ മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള  നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ്  ഒറ്റഘട്ടമായി കർണാടകത്തി നടക്കും. മെയ് പതിമൂന്നിനാണ് വോട്ടെണ്ണൽ. നിലവിലെ കർണാടക നിയമസഭയുടെ കാലാവധി മേയ് 24ന് അവസാനിക്കും. നിലവിൽ ബിജെപിക്ക് 118 സീറ്റ്, കോൺഗ്രസിന്– 72, ജെഡിഎസിന്– 32, രണ്ടു സീറ്റുകൾ ഒഴിവ് എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് കക്ഷിനില.  കോൺഗ്രസ് 124 പേരുടെ സ്ഥാനാർഥി പട്ടിക പുറത്തിവിട്ടപ്പോൾ ജെഡിഎസ് 93 പേരുടെ പട്ടികയാണ് പുറത്തുവിട്ടത്. ബിജെപിയുടെ വോട്ടർ പട്ടിക ഇതുവരെ പുറത്ത് വന്നിട്ടില്ല. പ്രമുഖ കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതാക്കളെല്ലാം തന്നെ ആദ്യ പട്ടികയിൽ ഇടംപിടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സുരക്ഷിത മണ്ഡലം തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത മുൻ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവുമായ സിദ്ധരാമയ്യ, ഇത്തവണ മൈസൂരുവിലെ വരുണയിൽനിന്ന് ജനവിധി തേടും. കർണാടക പിസിസി അധ്യക്ഷൻ ഡി.കെ.ശിവകുമാർ കനക്പുരയിൽ മത്സരിക്കും. മുതിർന്ന് നേതാവ് ജി.പരമേശ്വര കൊരട്ടിഗെരെയിൽ തുടരും.

രാഹുൽ ഗാന്ധിയെ അയോഗ്യനാക്കിയതിനാൽ നിലവിൽ വയനാട് ലോക്സഭാ മണ്ഡലം ഒഴിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുകയാണ്. ഈ സീറ്റിലേക്കുള്ള ഉപതിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കർണാടക നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നതിനോടോപ്പം ഉണ്ടാവുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അതുണ്ടായില്ല. ലക്ഷദ്വീപ് എംപി മുഹമ്മദ് ഫൈസലിനെ അയോഗ്യനാക്കിയതിന് പിന്നാലെ ലക്ഷദ്വീപിൽ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷൻ തിടുക്കപ്പെട്ട് ഉപതിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുകയും കേരളം ഹൈക്കോടതി വിധിയെത്തുടർന്ന് വിജ്ഞാപനം റദ്ദ് ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

The term of the current Karnataka Legislative Assembly will end on May 24. Currently BJP has 118 seats, Congress – 72, JDS – 32 and two seats are vacant. Congress has released a list of 124 candidates while JDS has released a list of 93 candidates. Voter list of BJP is not out yet. All prominent Congress leaders have been included in the first list. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, who chose a safe constituency, will seek the seat from Varuna in Mysuru this time. Karnataka PCC president DK Shivakumar will contest from Kanakpura. Senior leader G. Parameshwara will continue in Koratigere.

- There are 5.21 crore voters in the state.

The Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is currently vacant due to the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi. The by-election for this seat was expected to be held at the same time as the announcement of the Karnataka assembly elections, but that did not happen. After the disqualification of Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Faisal, the Election Commission hastily announced a by-election in Lakshadweep and canceled the notification following the Kerala High Court verdict.
