ടോക്യോ പാരാലിമ്പിക്സിൽ അഭിമാനം വാനോളം ഉയർത്തി ഇന്ത്യക്ക് ആദ്യ സ്വർണം. ഷൂട്ടിങ് (10 മീറ്റർ എയർ റൈഫിൽ) ഇന്ത്യൻ താരം അവനി ലേഖാരയാണ് സുവർണ നേട്ടം കൈവരിച്ചത്. 249.6 പോയിന്‍റ് നേടിയ ലോക റെക്കോർഡോടെയാണ് അവനി ജേതാവായത്. 10 മീറ്റർ എയർ റൈഫിൽ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ ചൈനയുടെ യുപിങ് ഷാങ് (248.9 പോയിന്‍റ്) വെള്ളിയും ഉക്രെയിന്‍റെ ഇറിന ചെത്നിക് വെങ്കലവും നേടി. യോഗ്യതാ റൗണ്ടിൽ അവനി ലേഖാര 621.7 പോയിന്‍റ് നേടി ഏഴാം സ്ഥാനം നേടിയിരുന്നു.

2012ലെ ഒരു കാർ അപകടത്തിൽ അവനിയുടെ നട്ടെല്ലിന് ഗുരുതര പരിക്കേറ്റിരുന്നു. അന്നു മുതൽ വീൽചെയറിലാണ് അവർ കഴിയുന്നത്. 2015ൽ കായിക രംഗത്തേക്ക് കടന്ന അവനി, ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങും അമ്പെയ്ത്തും തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. തുടർന്ന് ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

India's first gold raised its pride at the Tokyo Paralympics. Shooting (10m air rifle) Indian star Avani Lekhaara achieved the golden feat. He won with a world record of 249.6 points. China's Uping Shang (248.9 points) won silver and Ukraine's Irina Chetnik took bronze in the 10m air rifle category. In the qualifying round, Avani Lekhaara scored 621.7 points to take seventh place. She suffered serious spinal injuries in a 2012 car accident. They've been living in wheelchairs ever since. She entered the sport in 2015 and chose shooting and archery. Then she was focusing on shooting.

She is the first Indian woman in the history of the Paralympics to win gold. Muralikant Becker in swimming in 1972, Devendra Jagari in 2004 and 2016 and Mariyappon Thangavelu in 2016 are the male stars who won gold. Indian players had won three medals at the Paralympics the previous day. Bhavinaben Patel (Table Tennis), Nishad Kumar (high jump) and Vinod Kumar (Discustro), who bagged bronze, reaped medals for India.
