മുല്ലപെരിയാർ - ബേബി ഡാം ബലപ്പെടുത്താൻ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൻ്റെ കത്ത്, കേരളം കൂടുതൽ പ്രതിസന്ധിയിൽ

മുല്ലപ്പെരിയാർ അണക്കെട്ടിലെ ബേബി ഡാം ബലപ്പെടുത്താൻ നടപടി ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് കേന്ദ്ര ജലവിഭവ വകുപ്പ് ജോയിൻ്റ്  സെക്രട്ടറി കേരളത്തിനു കത്തയച്ചു. ബേബി ഡാമിനു മുന്നിലെ മരം മുറിക്കാൻ അനുമതി നൽകിയുള്ള ഉത്തരവ് റദ്ദാക്കാൻ നിയമോപദേശം തേടിയിരിക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ പ്രസ്തുത കത്തോടുകൂടെ കേരളം കൂടുതൽ പ്രതിസന്ധിയിലായി. 

ബേബി ഡാമി‍നോടു ചേർന്നുള്ള എർത്ത് ഡാമും ബലപ്പെടുത്ത‍‍ണമെന്നും അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണികൾ സുഗമമാക്കാൻ ഡാമിലേക്കുള്ള സമീപന പാത നന്നാക്കണമെന്നും സംസ്ഥാന ജലവിഭവ വകുപ്പ് അഡീഷനൽ ചീഫ് സെക്രട്ടറി ടി കെ ജോസിനു തിങ്കളാഴ്ച അയച്ച കത്തിൽ കേന്ദ്രം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. കേന്ദ്രത്തിന് എന്തു മറുപടി നൽകുമെന്ന പ്രശ്നത്തിനു പുറമേ, നിയമപോരാട്ടത്തിൽ തമിഴ്നാട് ഈ കത്ത് ആയുധമാക്കുമെന്ന വെല്ലുവിളിയുമുണ്ട്.

The Joint Secretary of the Union Water Resources Department has sent a letter to Kerala requesting action to strengthen the Baby Dam on the Mullaperiyar Dam. With the letter, Kerala is in further crisis as it seeks legal advice to rescind the order permitting the felling of trees in front of the Baby Dam.

In a letter to TK Jose, Additional Chief Secretary, State Water Resources Department, on Monday, the Center had demanded that the earth dam adjacent to the Baby Dam be strengthened and the access road to the dam be repaired to facilitate repairs. Apart from the question of what the Center will respond to, there is also the challenge of Tamil Nadu using this letter as a weapon in the legal battle.
