കുറഞ്ഞ സമയത്തേക്കായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യുഎസ് പ്രസിഡൻ്റിൻ്റെ ചുമതല വഹിച്ച ആദ്യ വനിതയെന്ന ബഹുമതി സ്വന്തമാക്കി കമല ഹാരിസ്. ആരോഗ്യ പരിശോധനകള്‍ക്കായി പ്രസിഡൻ്റ്  ജോ ബൈഡനെ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് ഒരു മണിക്കൂറും 25 മിനിറ്റും കമല ഹാരിസിന് പ്രസിഡൻ്റ്  പദവി കൈമാറിയതെന്ന് വൈറ്റ് ഹൗസ് അറിയിച്ചു.

യുഎസ് സമയം രാവിലെ 10.10നായിരുന്നു അധികാരക്കെമാറ്റം. 11.35 ആയപ്പോള്‍ ബൈഡന്‍ തിരികെ പദവിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ചതായും വൈറ്റ് ഹൗസ് വ്യക്തമാക്കി. യുഎസ് ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രായം കൂടിയ പ്രസിഡൻ്റ്  ആയ ജോ ബൈഡനെ പതിവ് കൊളോണോസ്‌കോപി പരിശോധനയ്ക്കാണ് ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഇതിനായി അനസ്‌തേഷ്യ നല്‍കുന്നതിനാലാണ് താല്‍കാലികമായി അധികാരം കൈമാറിയത്. 2002 ലും 2007 ലും അന്നത്തെ പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്ന ജോര്‍ജ് ബുഷും സമാനമായി അധികാരം കൈമാറിയിരുന്നു.
