മുതിർന്ന പൗരന്മാരുടെ യാത്ര ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ റയിൽവേ നിർത്തലാക്കിയിട്ട് ഒന്നര കൊല്ലം

കോവിഡ് കാലത്ത് നടത്തിയ ക്രമീകരണങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായി മുതിർന്ന പൗരന്മാരുടെ യാത്രാ ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യൻ റയിൽവേ നിർത്തലാക്കിയിട്ട് ഒരുകൊല്ലവും എട്ട് മാസവും കഴിഞ്ഞു.  രാജ്യത്തെ 4 കോടി മുതിർന്ന പൗരൻമാർക്ക് റെയിൽവേ യാത്രാനുകൂല്യമായ ടിക്കറ്റ് ഇളവാണ്  ഈ കാലയളവിൽ നഷ്‌ടമായത്. മധ്യപ്രദേശ് സ്വദേശി ചന്ദ്ര ശേഖർ കൗർ വിവരാവകാശ നിയമം പ്രകാരം നടത്തിയ അന്വേഷണത്തിലാണ്  ഈ വിവരം പുറത്തുവന്നത്.

2020 മാർച്ച് 22നും 2021 സെപ്റ്റംബറിനുമിടയിൽ 37,850,668 മുതിർന്ന പൗരൻമാരാണ് ട്രെയിനിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്‌തത്‌. ഇവരെല്ലാവരും ഈ കാലയളവിൽ ടിക്കറ്റിൻ്റെ മുഴുവൻ തുകയും നൽകിയാണ് സഞ്ചരിച്ചത്. ഇവർക്കാർക്കും ടിക്കറ്റ് കിഴിവ് ലഭിച്ചില്ല. കോവിഡ് കാലത്ത് ടിക്കറ്റ് ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ റെയിൽവേ നിർത്തിവച്ചിരുന്നു. 

60 വയസ് തികഞ്ഞ പുരുഷന്മാരും 58 വയസ് തികഞ്ഞ സ്ത്രീകളുമാണ് യാത്രാ ആനുകൂല്യത്തിന് അർഹർ. മുതിർന്ന സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് 50 ശതമാനവും പുരുഷന്മാർക്ക് 40 ശതമാനവുമാണ് ഇളവ്. ഈ ആനുകൂല്യം എല്ലാ ക്ലാസുകളിലും ബാധകമാണ്. എന്നാൽ 2020 മാർച്ച് മുതൽ ഇളവുകൾ നിർത്തിവച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ട്രെയിനുകൾ സാധാരണ നിലയിൽ  ഓടിത്തുടങ്ങിയതോടെ നിർത്തലാക്കിയ ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ  പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കണമെന്നാണ് യാത്രക്കാരുടെ ആവശ്യം. 

It has been a year and eight months since Indian Railways suspended the travel benefits of senior citizens as part of the arrangements made during the Covid19 period. About 40 million senior citizens in the country lost their railway ticket concessions during this period. Chandra Sekhar Kaur, a native of Madhya Pradesh, came up with the information during an RTI probe.

Between March 22, 2020 and September 2021, 37,850,668 senior citizens traveled by train. All of them traveled during this period paying the full amount of the ticket. None of them got a ticket discount. During the Covid19 period, ticket benefits were discontinued by the Railways.

Men over the age of 60 and women over the age of 58 are eligible for travel benefits. The discount is 50 per cent for older women and 40 per cent for men. This benefit applies to all classes. But the exemptions have been suspended since March 2020. Passengers are demanding the restoration of benefits that were discontinued as trains began to run normally.
