യു യു ലളിത് സുപ്രീം കോടതി ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ആയി സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്തു

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നാല്പത്തി ഒൻപതാമത് ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ആയി ഉദയ് ഉമേഷ് ലളിത്  സത്യ പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ദ്രൗപദി മുർമു സത്യവാചകം ചെല്ലി​ക്കൊടുത്തു. 74 ദിവസം മാത്രം സർവ്വീസ് ബാക്കിയുള്ള ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് 2022 നവംബർ എട്ടിന് വിരമിക്കും. പ്രമാദമായ നിരവധി കേസുകളിൽ ക്രിമിനൽ വക്കീലായിരുന്ന യു യു ലളിത് ബാറിൽ നിന്ന് സുപ്രീംകോടതി ബെഞ്ചിലേക്ക് നേരിട്ടെത്തുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസാണ്.

ഡൽഹി ബാറിൽ നിന്ന് ഡൽഹി ഹൈകോടതി ജഡ്ജിയായി ഉയർത്തപ്പെട്ട ജസ്റ്റിസ് യു.ആർ. ലളിതിന്‍റെ മകനായി 1957ൽ മഹാരാഷ്ട്രയിലാണ് ജനനം. ഔപചാരിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനു ശേഷം 1983ൽ ബോംബെ ഹൈകോടതിയിൽ അഭിഭാഷകവൃത്തി തുടങ്ങി. 1986ൽ സുപ്രീംകോടതിയിലേക്കു വരികയും 2004ൽ മുതിർന്ന അഭിഭാഷക പദവി ലഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 10 വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ് ജഡ്ജിയായി മാറി.

ബാബരി മസ്ജിദ് പൊളിക്കൽ, വ്യാജ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടൽ തുടങ്ങി പ്രമാദമായ നിരവധി കേസുകളിൽ പ്രതിഭാഗം ക്രിമിനൽ വക്കീലായിരുന്ന ലളിത്, നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി സർക്കാർ അധികാരത്തിലെത്തിയ ശേഷം കൊളീജിയം നടത്തിയ ആദ്യ ജഡ്ജി നിയമന ശിപാർശയിലൂടെയാണ് 2014 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 13ന് സുപ്രീംകോടതി ജഡ്ജിയാകുന്നത്.

തുളസീറാം പ്രജാപതി വ്യാജ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടൽ കേസിൽ കേന്ദ്ര ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രി അമിത് ഷായുടെയും ബാബരി മസ്ജിദ് തകർത്ത കേസിൽ മുൻ യു പി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി കല്യാൺ സിങ്ങിന്‍റെയും അഭിഭാഷകനായിരുന്നു ലളിത്. ബാബരി ഭൂമി കേസ് പരിഗണിച്ച അഞ്ചംഗ ബെഞ്ചിൽ ജസ്റ്റിസ് ലളിത് വാദം കേൾക്കാനിരുന്നപ്പോൾ സുന്നി വഖഫ് ബോർഡ് അഭിഭാഷകൻ രാജീവ് ധവാൻ ഇക്കാര്യം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയതിനെ തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പിന്മാക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

ആശാറാം ബാപ്പു കേസ് അടക്കം അഭിഭാഷകനായ കാരണത്താൽ ജസ്റ്റിസ് ലളിത് പിന്മാറിയ കേസുകൾ നിരവധിയാണ്. അഞ്ചിൽ മൂന്നു ജഡ്ജിമാരുടെ പിന്തുണയോടെ മുസ്ലിംകൾക്കിടയിലെ മുത്തലാഖ് നിരോധിച്ച ബെഞ്ചിൽ ലളിതുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കുട്ടിയുടെ സ്വകാര്യഭാഗം വസ്ത്രത്തിനുമേൽ സ്പർശിക്കുന്നത് ലൈംഗികാതിക്രമം അല്ല എന്ന മുംബൈ ഹൈകോടതി വിധി റദ്ദാക്കിയത് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ലളിത് അധ്യക്ഷനായ ബെഞ്ചാണ്.

Uday Umesh Lalit took oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath. The Chief Justice will retire on November 8, 2022 with only 74 days of service remaining. YU Lalit, who has been a criminal lawyer in many controversial cases, is the second Chief Justice to come directly from the bar to the Supreme Court bench.

Justice U.R. has been elevated from the Delhi Bar as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. He was born in Maharashtra in 1957 as the son of Lalit. After formal education, he started practicing law in Bombay High Court in 1983. He came to the Supreme Court in 1986 and got the rank of senior advocate in 2004. He became a judge after 10 years.

Lalit, who was the defense criminal lawyer in several controversial cases such as Babri Masjid demolition and fake encounter, became a Supreme Court judge on August 13, 2014 through the first judge appointment recommendation made by the collegium after the Narendra Modi government came to power.

Lalit was the lawyer of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Tulaseeram Prajapati fake encounter case and former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in the Babri Masjid demolition case. When Justice Lalit was scheduled to hear the arguments in the five-judge bench hearing the Babri land case, he withdrew after Sunni Waqf Board lawyer Rajeev Dhawan pointed out the matter.

There are many cases in which Justice Lalit recused himself on the grounds of being a lawyer, including the Asaram Bapu case. Lalit was on the bench which banned triple talaq among Muslims with the support of three out of five judges. A bench headed by Justice Lalit overturned the Bombay High Court verdict that touching a child's private parts over clothing is not sexual assault.
