ഇമ്രാന്‍ ഖാന് സുപ്രീം കോടതിയില്‍ കനത്ത തിരിച്ചടി. പാകിസ്താന്‍ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ഇമ്രാന്‍ ഖാനെതിരായ അവിശ്വാസ പ്രമേയം വോട്ടിനിടാതിരുന്ന ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കര്‍ ഖാസിം ഖാന് സൂരിയുടെ നടപടി പാക് സുപ്രീം കോടതി റദ്ദ് ചെയ്തു. ഇമ്രാൻ ഖാൻ്റെ ശുപാർശയിന്മേൽ പാകിസ്താൻ ദേശീയ അസംബ്ലി പിരിച്ചുവിട്ട പ്രസിഡൻ്റിൻ്റെ നടപടിയും സുപ്രീം കോടതി റദ്ദ് ചെയ്തു. ഇമ്രാന്‍ ഖാനെതിരായ അവിശ്വാസ പ്രമേയത്തില്‍ ശനിയാഴ്ച രാവിലെ പത്ത് മണിക്ക് ദേശീയ അസംബ്ലിയില്‍ വോട്ടെടുപ്പ് നടതണമെന്ന് സുപ്രീംകോടതി ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. അവിശ്വാസ പ്രമേയം വോട്ടിനിടാതിരുന്ന നടപടി ഭരണഘടനാ വിരുദ്ധമാണെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചാണ് സുപ്രീം കോടതിയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശം. അവിശ്വാസ വോട്ടെടുപ്പ് തള്ളിയ പാര്‍ലമെൻ്റ് ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കറുടെ നടപടിയിലെ ഭരണഘടനാ സാധുത വിശദമായി പരിശോധിച്ച ശേഷമാണ് കോടതിയുടെ ഉത്തരവ്. ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ഉമര്‍ അത്ത ബണ്ഡ്യാലിൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള അഞ്ചംഗ ബെഞ്ചാണ് ഉത്തരവ് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചത്.
സാമ്പത്തികപ്രതിസന്ധിക്കും പണപ്പെരുപ്പത്തിനും കാരണം ഇമ്രാന്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരാണെന്നാരോപിച്ച് മാര്‍ച്ച് എട്ടിനാണ് പാകിസ്താന്‍ മുസ്ലിംലീഗ് (നവാസ്), പാകിസ്താന്‍ പീപ്പിള്‍സ് പാര്‍ട്ടി എന്നിവയടക്കമുള്ള പ്രതിപക്ഷപാര്‍ട്ടികളിലെ നൂറോളം എം പി മാര്‍ അവിശ്വാസപ്രമേയം കൊണ്ടുവന്നത് . ഇമ്രാൻ്റെ പാര്‍ട്ടിയായ പാകിസ്താന്‍ തെഹ്രീകെ ഇന്‍സാഫിലെ (പി ടി ഐ.) 24 ജനപ്രതിനിധികള്‍ കൂറുമാറിയെന്ന റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളും പുറത്തുവന്നിരുന്നു. പിന്നാലെ ഏഴംഗങ്ങളുള്ള മുത്താഹിദ ക്വാമി മൂവ്മെന്റ് പാകിസ്താന്‍ (എം ക്യു എം-പി), നാല് അംഗങ്ങളുള്ള ബലൂചിസ്താന്‍ അവാമി പാര്‍ട്ടി, ഓരോ അംഗംവീതമുള്ള പി എം എല്‍ ക്യു, ജമൂരി വതന്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടി എന്നിവ പിന്തുണ പിന്‍വലിച്ചു. ഇതോടെ ഇമ്രാൻ സർക്കാരിൻ്റെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം നഷ്ടമാകുകയായിരുന്നു.
342 അംഗങ്ങളുള്ള ദേശീയസഭയില്‍ 172 വോട്ടുകളാണ് പ്രമേയത്തെ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്താനായി ഇമ്രാനുവേണ്ടിയിരുന്നത്. പ്രതിപക്ഷത്തിന് 177 പേരുടെ പിന്തുണയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അവസാന നിമിഷം ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി സ്പീക്കര്‍ വോട്ടെടുപ്പ് തള്ളിയതോടെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നീക്കം പരാജയപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇതിനുപിന്നാലെ പ്രസിഡൻ്റ് ആരിഫ് ആല്‍വി ദേശീയസഭ പിരിച്ചുവിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇതോടെയാണ് പ്രതിപക്ഷം സുപ്രീംകോടതിയെ സമീപിച്ചത്.

On March 8, hundreds of MPs from opposition parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and the Pakistan People's Party, filed a no-confidence motion alleging that the Imran government was responsible for the financial crisis and inflation. There were also reports that 24 members of Imran's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had defected. Later, the seven-member Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP-P), the four-member Balochistan Awami Party, the PMLQ and the Jamuri Vatan Party each withdrew their support. With this, the majority of the Imran government was lost.
In the 342-member National Assembly, Imran needed 172 votes to defeat the resolution. The opposition had the support of 177 people. But the opposition's move failed when the deputy speaker rejected the vote at the last minute. Following this, President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly. With this, the Opposition approached the Supreme Court.
