വൻ ഭൂചലനത്തിലും തുടർ ചലനങ്ങളിലും വിറങ്ങലിച്ച് തുർക്കിയും സിറിയയും. ആദ്യ ഭൂചലനത്തിൽ മരിച്ചവരുടെ എണ്ണം 2300 കടന്നു. തുർക്കിയിൽ മാത്രം 1498 പേർ മരിച്ചതായും 5,383 പേർക്ക് പരുക്കേറ്റതായും പ്രസിഡന്റ് തയിപ് എർദോഗൻ അറിയിച്ചു. രക്ഷാ പ്രവർത്തനം തുടരുകയാണ്. മരണസംഖ്യ ഇനിയും ഉയരുമെന്നു പറയാൻ  ആകുന്നില്ലെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു. സിറിയയിൽ 810 പേർ മരിച്ചതായാണ് റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ.

പ്രാദേശിക സമയം തിങ്കളാഴ്ച പുലർച്ചെ 4.17നാണ് ആദ്യ ഭൂചലനമുണ്ടായത്. റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌കെയിലില്‍ 7.8 തീവ്രത രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഭൂചലനമാണ് തെക്ക് കിഴക്കന്‍ തുര്‍ക്കിയില്‍ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടത്. 15 മിനിറ്റിനുശേഷം റിക്ടര്‍ സ്‌കെയിലില്‍ 6.7 രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ തുടര്‍ചലനവും അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു. കുറഞ്ഞത് 50 തുടർചലനങ്ങളാണ് ഉണ്ടായത്. നിരവധി കെട്ടിടങ്ങള്‍ നിലംപൊത്തി. ധാരാളം പേര്‍ ഇതിനുള്ളില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതായും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളുണ്ട്. ലെബനനിലും സൈപ്രസിലും ചലനം അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു. ആളുകള്‍ ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് അതിശക്തമായ ഭൂചലനം ഉണ്ടായത്. ഞെട്ടിയുണര്‍ന്ന ആളുകള്‍ പരിഭ്രാന്തരായി പരക്കം പായുന്നതിന്റെ ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ പുറത്തുവന്നു.

സിറിയയുടെ അതിര്‍ത്തിയോട് ചേര്‍ന്നുള്ള തെക്ക്-കിഴക്കന്‍ തുര്‍ക്കിയിലെ ഗാസിയാന്‍ടെപ്പില്‍ 17.9 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ഭൂമിക്കടിയിലാണ് ഭൂചലനത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭവകേന്ദ്രമെന്നാണ് വിലയിരുത്തൽ. അലപ്പോ, ഹാമ, ലറ്റാകിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളെയാണ് ഭൂകമ്പം ഏറെ ബാധിച്ചത്. വിമതരുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലുള്ള ഇദ്‌ലിബ് മേഖലയിൽ കെട്ടിടാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ നൂറിലേറെപ്പേർ കുടുങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതായി സിറിയ സിവിൽ ഡിഫൻസ് സേന അറിയിച്ചു.

ഭൂചലനത്തിൽ ദുരിതക്കയത്തിലായ ഇരുരാജ്യങ്ങൾക്കും സഹായവാഗ്ദാനവുമായി ഇന്ത്യയുൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി രാജ്യങ്ങൾ രംഗത്തെത്തി. ദുരന്തനിവാരണത്തിനായി രണ്ടു എൻഡിആർഎഫ് സംഘങ്ങളെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യ നിയോഗിച്ചത്. ബ്രിട്ടൻ, ജർമനി, ഫ്രാൻസ്, ഇസ്രയേൽ, കാനഡ, ഗ്രീസ്, ഈജിപ്ത് തുടങ്ങിിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളാണ് സഹായവാഗ്ദാനം മുന്നോട്ടു വച്ചത്. ഇതിനകം 45 ലോകരാജ്യങ്ങൾ സഹായം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തതായി തുർക്കി പ്രസിഡന്റ് വിശദീകരിച്ചു. നൂറുകണക്കിനുപേർ ഇപ്പോഴും കെട്ടിടാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ കുടുങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുകയാണ്. മരണസംഖ്യ ഇനിയും ഉയരുമെന്നാണ് വിവരം. രക്ഷാപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കിടെ ചിലയിടത്ത് വീണ്ടും കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ തകർന്നതായും റിപ്പോർട്ടുണ്ട്.

വിമതരുടെ കൈവശമുള്ള മേഖലകളിൽ കുറഞ്ഞത് 120 പേരെങ്കിലും മരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടാകാമെന്നാണ് റിപ്പോർട്ട്. രണ്ടായിരം വർഷത്തോളം പഴക്കമുള്ള ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങളും ഭൂചലനത്തിൽ നിലംപൊത്തി. ഇറാഖിൽനിന്ന് തുർക്കിയിലേക്ക് എണ്ണ കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന പൈപ്പ്‌ലൈനിന് തകരാർ സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടവർ അറിയിച്ചു. ഇപ്പോഴും ഇതുവഴി എണ്ണ കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നുണ്ട്.

Turkey and Syria rocked by massive earthquakes and aftershocks. The death toll from the first earthquake has crossed 2300. President Tayyip Erdogan announced that 1,498 people died and 5,383 were injured in Turkey alone. Rescue operation is going on. He added that it is not possible to say that the death toll will rise further. 810 people are reported to have died in Syria.

The first tremor occurred at 4:17 a.m. local time on Monday. An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale was felt in southeastern Turkey. An aftershock of 6.7 on the Richter scale was also felt 15 minutes later. There were at least 50 aftershocks. Many buildings collapsed. There are also reports that many people are trapped inside. Movement was felt in Lebanon and Cyprus. A powerful earthquake occurred while people were sleeping. Footage emerged of shocked people running around in panic.

The epicenter of the earthquake was estimated to be 17.9 km underground in Gaziantep, south-eastern Turkey, near the border with Syria. Aleppo, Hama and Latakia were mostly affected by the earthquake. The Syrian Civil Defense Force said more than 100 people were trapped in the rubble of buildings in the rebel-held Idlib region.

Many countries, including India, have come forward with the promise of help to both the countries that are in distress due to the earthquake. India has appointed two NDRF teams for disaster management. Countries like Britain, Germany, France, Israel, Canada, Greece and Egypt have offered help. The Turkish president explained that 45 countries of the world have already offered help. Hundreds of people are still trapped in the rubble. The death toll is expected to rise. It is also reported that buildings have collapsed again in some places during the rescue operations.

At least 120 people are reported to have died in rebel-held areas. Two thousand years old historical monuments were also destroyed in the earthquake. The oil pipeline carrying oil from Iraq to Turkey has not been damaged, the sources said. Oil is still transported through it.
